Enhancement: “new to you” coloring

July 18th, 2007

As of this afternoon, you may be noticing some slight color changes on your front page. Stories which you’ve seen before but haven’t read will appear in green, while stories that are completely new to you will appear in the usual blue.  As before, stories you’ve read will be gray. In this way you should be able to spot new stories more easily. Enjoy!

Thoof stories new look

July 16th, 2007

Hi there, I’m Tammie the designer at thoof. Today saw the launch of a new look for the thoof stories. The change came about from the great user feedback we have been getting - keep it coming it really helps us know what you want from thoof. I hope the new look resolves some of the issues where people felt thoof didn’t have an impact for the stories. A fair few more changes are marked to be done so expect to see a lot more coming.

The new story treatment is designed to keep the clean, simple look of thoof but tie in with the header and the look that the site uses. Care has been taken to still keep the story content the focus as this is important with thoof. This phase is just the start as has been said, images are also going to be added which will have a large impact on the visual format of the site. Expect to see some additional colour also with the story state indication.

From the great feedback of the screenshot mock up, the decision was made to keep the actual story summary the standard black colour. Also, in response to feedback the lighter grey used for unread and also for information text on thoof has been darkened. As you can see any comment at thoof is considered in the design process.

I hope you like the new look, you will notice it’s also been applied to the about page and header treatments. We will be rolling out the new look to other parts of the site over time including this blog. As always your feedback is welcome.
